Vasumathi Badrinathan To Present Stree Ganaam
on March 8
CHENNAI, March 4: Mumbai-based vocalist and dancer Vasumathi
Badrinathan will stage a multi-media production of Stree Ganaam,
based on women composers in Carnatic Music, on the occasion
of the International Women’s Day, which falls on March
8.
The venue of the Stree Ganaam will be Dakshinamurthy Auditorium,
P.S.High School, Mylapore, Chennai. The programme will start
at 5.45 pm. Tamil cine actress Revathy will be the chief guest.
The event is open to all music lovers.
Stree Ganaam is an attempt to present the works of a few women
composers, who had composed music from the 7th century onwards
to the present day. These women composers hail from Andhara
Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Their polyglot compositions
will make interesting revelation of the poetry of their times,
producing an insight into the feminist mind.
Stree Ganaam, it is claimed, is an effort to revive, salvage,
preserve and present the works of the women composers, whose
works will otherwise go unrecognized and will be lost to the
music world.
Vasumathi Badrinathan will present a solo multi-media presentation
of the Stree Ganaam, which will feature the life sketch of the
women composers, along with a few select compositions.
