Music Academy Does A Noble Act
By Sudha Jagannathan
CHENNAI, March 10: It is better late than never. So goes an
old adage. Music Academy may be late in doing this. Unlike the
Nobel Foundation, this venerable institution in Mecca of Carnatic
Music is not regretting.
The Nobel Foundation in Stockholm recently came out with an
announcement that it regretted the fact that the Father of India
Mahatma Gandhi was not honoured with the Nobel peace prize.
Addressing a gathering got up here on Sunday to confer Lifetime
Achievement Award on violin maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman, President
of Music Academy N. Murali said, ``we (Music Academy) has done
better (than the Nobel Foundation)’’. The Academy
had never honoured Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. ``We seek to erase
this mistake and make correction in the 80th anniversary celebrations
by conferring on Lalgudi G. Jayaraman the Lifetime Achievement
Award,’’ he added. ``We take pride in honouring
the musician among musicians,’’ he said. There could
not be a worthier occasion and worthier person to receive this
special award, he pointed out.
