Music fete in memory of Madurai S. Vydianathan


CHENNAI, April 1: SHISYAS is organizing a two-day music festival in memory of Madurai S. Vydianathan. The two-day event will begin on April 5. It will take place at Radha Nagar, Vasantha Mandapam, Chromepet, Chennai-44.

Vydianathan was born on November 4, 1927 in Kerala. He had his education at Madurai. He had his musical training under Uma Maheswara Bhagavathar and Bagavatheeswara Bhagavathar.

His `manaseeka guru’, however, was GNB. He followed the GNB style of rendering music. He started giving concerts from 1950. He had also acted as "Saint Thyagaraja" in the drama "The Life of Thyagaraja", held in 1955 at R.R. Sabha, Kolkatta. Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar witnessed the drama.

``His deep awareness of music was reflected in his demonstration of Thyagaraja's compositions "Nagumomu" in Aberi, `Balakanakamaya’ in Ataana and `Evarani’ in Naagachintamani,’’ says a release from SHISYAS. Vydianathan passed into the pages of history in March'2006.

SHISYAS is a trust formed by Manishankar, one of the disciples of Vydianathan. It is supported by other disciples such as Radhakrishnan, Muralikrishnan,.V.B. Dharshinee and V. Baskar.
