Ragasree College To Hold Pratibha Ustav on April 6

CHENNAI, April 2: Ragasree College of Music in Bangalore is
readying to celebrate Pratibha Ustav 2008.
As part of the celebrations, the college has organized concerts
of the disciples of Vidushi Vasanthamadhavai on the evening
of April 6.
The concerts will be held at Sri Vijyavinayaka Swami Temple,
5th cross street, 31st Main, ITI Lay-out, J.P. Nagar, Ist Phase,
Bangalore-78.
Renowned art critic Dr. M. Suryaprassad will be the chief guest.
In the evening, there will vocal concerts of Krithika Srinivasan
and Shruthi.
As the founder and principal of Ragasree College of Music, Vasanthamadhavi
is training and encouraging promising students. Pratibha Utsav
is celebrated every year. During the Ustav, young artists trained
by her are introduced to the performing field.
Vasanthamadhavi began learning music at the age of five under
the tutelage of SreenivasaRaghavachar and Gopalakrishna. She
later obtained advanced training from Ganakalasindhu Ganakalakushala
D. Subbaramaiah. Vasanthamadhavi is a multi-faceted personality.
She is a performer, composer, musicologist, organizer and a
teacher.
She has been an artist of All-India Radio Bangalore and Bangalore
Doordarshan for several years. She is also an approved composer
for AIR. She has been honored with titles such as Kalaradhana
Shree, Gunanidhi, Sangitha Vaggeya Bhushani and “Kalajyothy”.
During her trip to the U.S in 2000, she performed for CMANA
in New Jersey. Again in 2004, she gave several concerts, conducted
workshops on various musical subjects and gave lecture demonstrations
in San Diego, Fremont, Washington D.C and other places.
She has several cassettes and CDs to her credit. RagaTaranga,
Sri. Lalitha Sahasranama Stotra, Endaro Mahanubhavulu, Dasamrutha,
Ashta Dikpalaka Kritis, Navagraha Kritis, Paramahamsagitam,
Shankara githa, Rishi Vandana and Mela Mukthavali are among
them.
Vasanthamadhavi is the Managing Trustee of D. Subbaramaiah Fine
Arts Trust, established by her. The Trust is engaged in the
task of promoting fine arts in all its forms and encouraging
students of music in particular by giving them scholarships
to attain higher standards. The Trust has set its own syllabus
which is followed by several reputed teachers and students in
the field. The successful candidates following this syllabus
are awarded the title Sangita Koustubha and the gurus are honored,
once in three years, as Koustubha Acharya. Every year, a conference,
Ragasree Sammelanotsava, is conducted, at which a senior musician
is conferred the title Gandharva vidyanidhi and a promoter of
fine arts the title Lalithakalashraya. Five more eminent persons
from various art forms are also honored.
Vasanthamadhavi has a Kovida degree in Sanskrit. She is also
prolific composer. She has composed in Sanskrit, Kannada and
Telugu.
