Music Academy to celebrate Semmangudi birth centenary
CHENNAI, April 30: Music Academy is preparing to celebrate the
birth centenary of Sangita Kalanidhi late Semmangudi R. Srinivasa
Iyer in July.
The four-day celebrations will begin on July 24. It will last
till July 27. The celebrations will be held at the Music Academy.
The former President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, will inaugurate
the celebrations on July 25, the birth anniversary of Semmangudi
Srinivasa Iyer. He is also expected to release a coffee table
book on Semmangudi.
There will be a curtain-raiser concert by sisters Ranjani and
Gayathri on July 24. The inaugural function on July 25 will
be followed by a concert by R.K. Srikantan. Music Academy has
also arranged for a short audio-visual presentation. The Academy
is also planning to release CDs of the concerts of Semmangudi.
There will be concerts of Sudha Raghunathan, T.M. Krishna and
Parasala Ponnammal on July 26 and July 27. The celebrations
will also feature music sessions and lectures by the disciples
of Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer.
