Sydney music fest to begin on June 7


CHENNAI, May 30: The three-day Sydney Music Festival will commence on June 7 at the Sir Ian Turbott Auditorium, University of Western Sydney, Parramatta Campus, Rydalmere.

The festival is being organized under the auspices of Swara Laya Fine Arts Society.

This year's festival will feature Carnatic music concerts, competition for children and discussions and debate with overseas artistes.

This year's festival will see top Carnatic musicians such as T. M. Krishna, Sudha Raghunathan, Aruna Sairam, Bhushani Kalyanaraman, Carnatica Brothers, P. Unnikrishnan and brothers Ganesh and Kumaresh give their concerts. It will also feature a a Bharthanatyam dance recital by Sreekala Bharath.

Competitions for children will be held from 4th June to the 6th June 2008 at the Homebush Boys High School.

A Special debate is also being organized on the June 9 at the University of Western Sydney. The topic of the debate will be: “Should classical music and dance follow sampradhayam or should it be janaranjakam”.
