Veena Seshanna Award for Kalpakam Swaminathan
BANGALORE, June 20: Veteran veena artiste Kalpakam Swaminathan
has been chosen for the Veena Seshanna Memorial National Award.
Instituted by the Bangalore-based Swara Murthy V.N. Rao Memorial
Trust, the Award will be conferred on her on July 20 at a function
being organized at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja Auditorium. The
function will coincide the commencement of the two-day music
festival of the Samaja.
The Veena Seshanna Award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.
It is presented to an instrumentalist every year. It is sponsored
by Dr. Veerandra Hegde of Dharmasthala.
The previous recipients of the Award include Lalgudi Jayaraman.
M. S. Gopalakrishnan, R.R. Keshava Murthy and H. V. Krishnamurthy.
