Maharajapuram Santhanam Rasikas' Trust to honour musicians
CHENNAI, June 21: The annual Maharajapuram Santhanam memorial
programme will take place on June 23 at Thatvaloka Hall, 76
Eldams Road, Tenampet in Chennai.
Organized by Shri Maharajapuram Santhanam Rasikas' Trust, the
programme will commence at 5 p.m. with a vocal concert by Parvathi
Ramakrishnan. It will be followed by a function to honour musicians.
The function will be presided over by B. Manivannan, Zonal Manager
(Southern Zone), Life Insurance Corporation of India. K. Sriram,
Channel Head, Vijay TV, and T. S. Raghavan, former Chairman
and Managing Director of Indian Bank, will pay tributes to the
late singer.
The Trust will also honour Chitoor Revathi Rathnaswamy (vocalist)
and Srirangarajapuram R. Jayaraman (mridangam artiste). It will
also distribute educational support and mediclaim policy to
the family of Kumar, a direct descendant from the family of
Shyama Sastri. Select musicians will also be given mediclaim
policies.
The function will be followed by Namasankirthanam by Udaiyalur
Kalyanarama Bhagavathar and his team.
Simultaneously. concerts are also being organized across a few
places. A violin concert of M. Chandrasekaran will take place
at 6.p.m. on the day at Keyes High School for Girls in Secunderabad.
The concert is being organized in association wit Sri Chandrasekharendra
Sangeetha Educational Society of Secunderabad. He will be accompanied
by Madurai S. Balasubramanian (violin), Melakkaveri K. Balaj
(mridangam) and Papanasam Sethuraman (kanjira).
There will also be a vocal concert of Krithika Natarajan at
4 p.m. at Thiru Vi Ka Park, near Dharmasastha temple, Alwarthirunagar
in Chennai. She will be accompanined by Nandini (violin) and
Srivanchiyam Sriram (mridangam).
The Trust will also conduct a Nadasamarpanam programme on July
1 at Sri Vijayeendraswamy Mutt, Kumbakonam, which will see wide
participation by musicians.
