He wears a deceptive personality. When on stage, however, Abhishek Raghuram is an artist par excellence. What stands out in the vocalist Abhishek is his total immersion into the job on hand. He sports a simple countenance. Once he begins his concert, he is unto himself, and unmindful of the audience. A kanjira player himself, he engages remarkably well with co-artistes. Often times, he appears to engage in serious conversation with his accompanists - be it percussion artistes or the violinist. His three-hour concert for the Music Academy on the evening of December 29 was simply superb. The brighas, swaras and neravals - they all bore the unique Abhishek stamp. It rained outside but music poured inside the Academy. Be it the main Kharaharapriya kriti ``Srinivasa thava charanam'' or the RTP in Mohana Kalyani and Dhanyasi piece ``Sangeeta Jnanamu'' and `and even ``Paripahimam'' in Mohanam - Abhishek eased into his work ever so effortlessly. The gait, glide, speed and melody - the rendition was all-encompassing, to say the least. There was never a dull moment in the 180-minute concert. With the support of senior artistes on stage, Abhishek made it a lovely evening.
