Playing the role model to perfection
By Sudha Jagannathan
She is a long-haul player. Season after season, she turns out to sing. Many seasons have gone by since her maiden concert. Her commitment, however, has not dimmed. That is what keeps Sudha Ragunathan the artiste going on and on. Her experience was in full display when she gave a concert for The Music Academy on December 22, 2019. As the 150-minute concert progressed, she deftly glided into a comfort zone. Using her experience, the senior artiste made the concert a rich learning session for youngsters pining for a long innings as vocalists. Her RTP in raga Simhendramadhyamam was absorbing with taanam in around five ragas such as Natta, Gowla, Aarabhi, Varali and Sri. She also sang ragamalika swaras in nearly a dozen ragas such as Sri, Kundaravarali, Hindolam, Hamsanandi etc with her skillful tactics. The Todi kriti, Varnam in Hamir Kalyani and Dikshitar kriti in Saveri were pleasant to listen. Indeed, Sudha is a musician for many more seasons to come.
