Sruthi Laya teams up with Australian Art Orchestra for Jazz concert in Chennai

30 May 2008: Sruthi Laya will join hands with the Australian Art Orchestra to present 'Oceanic Dream', a contemporary Jazz concert, here. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on June 5. The venue will be the Music Academy.

Sydney music fest to begin on June 7

30 May 2008: The three-day Sydney Music Festival will commence on June 7 at the Sir Ian Turbott Auditorium, University of Western Sydney, Parramatta Campus, Rydalmere. The festival is being organized under the auspices of Swara Laya Fine Arts Society.

Priyamvadaa to play vioilin at Sundaram Finance Sunday Park Concert

29 May 2008: As part of Sundaram Finance's mikeless Sunday Kutcheri in the Park, R. Priyamvadaa, a 15-year-old student studying in Sri Sivaswami Kalalaya, Mylapore, will present an hour of Carnatic music on the violin this Sunday morning (June 1, 2008) at Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.

Kamban Pugazh award for T.N. Seshagopalan

27 May 2008: Vetern vocalists Madurai T. N. Seshagopalan has been honoured by Akhila Ilangai Kamban Kazhagam, Sri Lanka, with ‘Kamban Pugazh’ award. The award was given to him at a function held recently at Colombo Kamban Kazhagam.

AIR to organize music competion
26 May 2008: All-India Radio (AIR) will organize a music competition to discover fresh talents. The competition is open for those in the age group of 18 to 24 years (as on June 29). The contest will cover Carnatic, devotional, light, folk, Hindustani and chorus music.

Award for Revathy Krishna
09 May 2008: Veena artiste Revathy Krishna has been honoured with the Kumar Gandharva Award. The Award is given by Kumar Gandharva Foundation, Mumbai. The Award is instituted in the name of Hindustani classical singer Kumar Gandharva.

Violin ensemble at Sri Rama Seva Mandali fest
09 May 2008: Frontline violin artiste A. Kanyakumari will lead a band of 70 violinists to present a recital in the ongoing Rama Navami Festival in Bangalore. The 70-violin ensemble will take place on May 10 to commemorate the 70th year of Sri Rama Navami Festival.

Book on essentials of musicology in South India
09 May 2008: A book titled ``Essentials of Musicology in South India’’ will be released here today. The book is written by S.R. Janakiraman. The book-release function is being organized jointly by Music Education Trust, Madras Chapter, and SRJ Well Wishers’ Forum.

Suvasini performs at Sundaram Finance Kutcheri
05 May 2008: The monthly mike-less 'Sundaram Finance Sunday Kutcheri in the Park' on May 4, 2008 saw the 15-year-old B. Suvasini, a student of SBSM Senior Secondary School, West Mambalam, present an hour-long Carnatic vocal concert at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore here. Suvasini was accompanied on the violin by Shyam and on the Mridangam by K.R. Narayen.

Shanthi Arts to hold RTP competition

03 May 2008: Mylapore-based Shanthi Arts Foundation and Endowments is planning to hold an all-India `Ragam, Thanam and Pallavi' (RTP) competition on August 2 and 3. The competition will be held at Srinivasa Sastri Hall here.

02 May 2008: B. Suvasini, a 15-year-old student of SBSM Senior Secondary School, West Mambalam, will present a vocal music performance this Sunday morning (4th May) at 6.30 am at the monthly mikeless 'Sundaram Finance Sunday Kutcheri in the Park' at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.

Music fest in Tiruvarur

02 May 2008: The 24th annual Carnatic music festival of Tiruvarur-based Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peeta Carnataka Sangeetha Seva Trust will commence on May 5. The festival will last till May 11.
