Parthiv Mohan of California performs at Sundaram Finance Sunday Park concert
CHENNAI, January 5: The 2009 edition of the monthly mikeless ‘Sundaram Finance Sunday Kutcheri in the Park’ kicked off with a on-hour vocal carnatic music performance by 14-year-old Parthiv Mohan, a 9th class student from California, on the morning of January 4 at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.
Parthiv Mohan was accompanied by Ananthasree (violin) and by Thirucheri Kaushik Rajagopal (mridangam).
Parthiv is a student of Anuradha Sridhar, daughter of Lalgudi Srimathi Brahmanandam, and has been learning carnatic vocal for six years. He has also been learning violin.
T. T. Srinivasaraghavan, Managing Director, Sundaram Finance Ltd., was present on the occasion and presented certificates and momentos to the performing artistes.
The idea behind the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park is to promote young musical talent aged below 15 years and to help them shed their inhibitions and give them the confidence to move up to the next level.
Since February 2006, over 200 children have participated in the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park.
T. T. Srinivasaraghavan, Managing Director, Sundaram Finance Ltd., said, “It was heartening to hear that two young children (Sruthi and Jayashree Sarathy) from the U.S., who gave their first concert in Chennai at the ‘Kutcheri in the Park’ in January 2008 (exactly one year ago), have recently been presented with the opportunity to perform at the Sabhas in Chennai during this Margazhi music season. That, for us, is the real return on investment, those for whom we provided a platform, blossoming and moving on.”
The Sunday Kutcheri in the Park takes place on the 1st Sunday of every month between 6.30am and 7.30am and is open for children below 15 years. Mikes and speakers are not used. Sundaram Finance conducts an audition to finalise the artistes.
