Mahathi showcases talent at Sunday park concert
CHENNAI, May 2: As a part of the monthly mikeless Sunday kutcheri in the park organised by Sundaram Finance, 11-year- old Mahathi Venkat Raman, a class six student of Avalon Heights International School, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, came all the way from Mumbai to present a lively carnatic music performance this morning at the Nageswara Rao Park at Mylapore here.
Mahathi has been learning music since the age of six and is currently a student of Smt. Lakshmi Padmanaban. Mahathi is also a violinist, a dancer and a swimmer.
Accompanied on the violin by Thiruvedaimarudur K. Ganeshan and on the mridangam by Pattu Padmanabhan, Mahathi’s sweet presentation was much appreciated by the audience that had gathered around the Chess Square.
Beginning with Manikkavachagar’s Thiru Renba, Mahathi presentation included Sarasaksha (Panthuvaraali- Adi), Himadri Sute ( Kalyani-Rupagam), Karuna Jaladhe ( Nathanamakriya-Adi) and Govinda Miha ( Bagheshree- Kanda Chappu).
Mrs. Anandhi Venkat Raman, the mother of Mahathi,, said, “when we shared the Sunday kutcheri concept with the International School where Mahathi is studying, they were impressed. Immediately recognising the importance of Carnatic Music, the school has included this as an integral part of its extra curricular activities.”
V.Kumaraswamy, General Manager of Sundaram Business Services, presented the certificates and mementos to the performing artistes. Sunday Kutcheri in the Park provides a platform for young children under the age of 15years to display their musical talent in an informal park audience.
