Sree Chithira Thirunal Award for K.J. Yesudas
CHENNAI, September 19: Carnatic musician and play-back singer Shri K. J. Yesudas has been picked for the prestigious Sree Chithira Thirunal award for the year 2010. Shri Yesudas was chosen for the honour in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the music world and also his work for universal peace and harmony, according to a statement by Mr. K. Jayakumar, Chairman of the jury that chose the singer.

The award comprises a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and memento. The award function would be held later.

The earlier recipients of the award were former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisaion, Mr. G. Madhavan Nair, former National Security Advisor, Mr. M. K. Narayanan, agriculturist Mr. M. S. Swaminathan and actor Mr. Mohanlal.
