Vidya makes mark at Navarathri Special ‘Kutcheri in the Park’
CHENNAI, October 11: Twelve year-old R. Vidya, a class 8 student of AVM Rajeswari Matriculation Higher Secondary School, kicked off day one of the three-day Navarathri special kutcheri (on October 8) in the Park organized by Sundaram Finance with a pleasing Carnatic music performance at the Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.

Accompanied on the violin by 11-year-old Parur M.K.Ananth Lakshmi (a disciple of Parur M S Anantha Raman) and on the mridangam by 15-year-old D. Sivaraman (a disciple of T Shyam Sundar). Vidya, who took a particular liking for Thyagarajar’s compositions, presented Anubama Guna (Atana Ragam in Kanda Chapu Thaalam), Thulasi Thala (Maya malava gowla in Rupakam), Marukelara O raghava (JayanthaShri in Adi), Vasudevayani (Kalyani in Adi), Vandanamu Ragunandana (Sahana in Adi) and Manavyalakin Chara Thate (Nalinakanthi in Adi), among others.

The idea behind the Kutcheri in the Park is to provide a platform for young children aged below 15years to display their musical talent. Mikes and speakers are not used. Sundaram Finance audition committee conducts an audition to select the artistes to perform at the Kutcheri in the Park.
