Over 60 artistes take part in Sundaram Finance Mylapore festival
CHENNAI, Jaunary 18: The 9th edition of Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival kicked off on the morning of January 6, 2011 with a Nadaswaram Kutcheri by S. Pandian and M. Mohan (Guru B. Raj) of the Tamil Isai Kalloori at the Chess Square of the Nageswara Rao Park. They were accompanied on the Thavil by R. Jeeva and Venkatesan (Guru K. Manikandan). This is the first time in over five years of the mike-less kutcheri at the Nageswara Rao Park that a Nadaswaram Kutcheri had taken place.
Mr. T.T. Srinivasaraghavan, Managing Director, Sundaram Finance Ltd., was present on the occasion and presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.
On day 2 of the festival, nine students, all aged below 15 years, of Ganamrutha Music School (Guru: Mrs. Chitra Madhavan) presented a vocal Carnatic music performance. They were accompanied by Sai Rakshith (Violin) and S. Giridhar (Mridangam).
They presented songs such as Kaavagajamukha (Hamsadvani - Aadhi), Rajagopalanai (Bheembalas- Aadhi), Kurai Onrum Illai (Ragamalika) and Ellorum Sugamai (Madhyamavathi - Aadhi).
Thematic group concerts
Over the week-end, there were two thematic group concerts. On Saturday (January 8) morning, 25students (students of Mrs. Prabha Rajaram) presented ‘Shakthi and Shivam’, a thematic mike-less group Kutcheri. It was much appreciated by over 200 people who had gathered around the Chess Square. These young artistes were accompanied on the Harmoniam by Shankar Raman, on the Mridangam by Shivasubramaniam and on the Dolki by Ashwin. Alternating their presentation between Shakthi and Shivam, the young group presented songs such as Kanchadalaya Dakshi (Kamalamanohari –Aadhi), Mamavasad Janani (Kaanada- Rupakam), Sabapathikku (Aabhogi- Rupakam), Kapali (Mohanam- Aadhi), Karpagambike (Bilahari- Rupakam) and Siva Peruman Kripai (Surutti- Aadhi).
P. Viswanathan, Deputy Secretary, Sundaram Finance, was present on the occasion and handed over certificates to all the performing artistes.
On the final morning (January 9), 20 students of TKG Gurukulam (Guru: Mrs. Radha Ramji) presented a group kutcheri based on the theme – ‘Rama Kothanda Rama’.
During these four days, over 60 artistes participated in concerts.
