Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute invites application for Meena Srinivasan Memorial Award
CHENNAI, January 17: Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute has announced a one-time grant initiative named ``Meena Srinivasan Memorial Award’’ (MSMA) for emerging Indian artistes performing in the areas of Carnatic music.

Meena Srinivasan was a passionate supporter of Indian Carnatic music. With a view to promoting Indian arts and culture in Canada, the MSMA grant is aiming at assisting a talented young Indian artiste with travel subsidies to visit to Canadian order to participate in cultural events or competitions, to be held in Canada, says a release.

The MSMA is being funded by the family and friends of late Meena Srinivasan, who was based in Montreal. Meena was a Carnatic vocalist. Her family and friends would like to make her legacy live on through music and dance.

The value of the award is Canadian dollar 1,500. The fund is intended to be spent in supporting the international round trip (India-Canada-India) economy airfare costs of the artiste. The potential applicant should preferably be in the age group of 16-30 years. The applicant must be a citizen of India.

Completed electronic application form should be submitted to the Shastri Institute’s India Office (rati@sici.org.in) by February 24, 2013.
