Varsha's impressive show at Park Kutcheri
CHENNAI, April 17: As part of the monthly Sunday Kutcheri in the Park organised by Sundaram Finance, 14-year-old Varsha, a Class X student of Chettinad Vidyashram, presented a lively vocal Carnatic music performance on the morning of April 5 at Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore.

No mikes and speakers were used at the kutcheri.

Varsha is learning music from Mrs. Vasanthi Ravi. Varsha presented compositions that included Oothukaadu Venkata Subbaiyar’s Sri Vignarajam Bhajae (Gambeera Nattai), Sri Muthuswamy Dikshithar’s Sri Kamakshi (Vasantha) and Kailasana Dhaena (Kambhoji), Thyagarajar’s Vasudevayani (Kalyani) and Jootha Murarae (Aarabhi), Papanasam Sivam’s Venkata Ramana (Lathangi) and Barathiyar’s Vande Maatharam (Ragamalika).

Varsha was accompanied on the Violin by Parur Ananthalakshmi (a disciple of Parur M.S. Anatharaman) and on the Mirudangam by Master S.Sashank (a student of EVL Muthukumaran, a disciple of Karaikudi Mani).

Mr. S Ravindran, Senior Vice-President of Sundaram Finance, was present on the occasion, and presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.

Organised on the first Sunday of every morning between 7 a.m. and 8.a.m. the idea behind the Kutcheri in the Park concept is to promote young musical talent aged below 15 years and to provide a launch pad for them. The focus of the Sunday Kutcheri in the Park has been on developing this as a platform for young ‘unsung’ children. Over 900 children have presented Kutcheri in the Park since the launch in February 2006.

Sundaram Finance conducts audition to select the artistes for the monthly kutcheri. To register for the audition, email:
