Book, CD on compositions of Kalyani Varadarajan to be released in on March 26
CHENNAI, March 17: A book on the compositions of late Kalyani Varadarajan of Mumbai is set to be released in the U.S. on March 26.

Kalyani Varadarajan was a vocalist, and also a Veena and Violin artiste. She had composed over thousand kritis. Out of which, a few hundred are known today. Some of her kritis had figured in concerts of Dr.S. Balachander, Dr.S. Rajam, S. Kalyanaraman, Prof.T.R. Subramaniam, Dr. Prapancham Sitaram (flute), Priya Sisters, Hyderabad Brothers, to name a few. The book, titled ``Compositions of Smt. Kalyani Varadarajan'' is authored by Dr. Saroja Raman, who is a disciple and daughter-in-law of late Kalyani. The book will contain two varnams and 30 kritis of Smt. Kalyani Varadarajan. And, the book will be published by Issai Kudumbam.

Simultaneously, efforts are also on to come out with a CD titled `` Rainbow (Sound of Carnatic excellence)''. The CD will comprise seven kritis of the composer. The songs are sung by R. Suryaprakash with Nagai Sriram on Violin, Thanjavur K. Murugabhoopathi on Mridangam and Trichy K. Murali on the Ghatam, says a released. The CD will have the following songs of Kalyani Varadarajan:

The book and CD are being released by Cleveland Aradhana Committee, Cleveland, Ohio, US. The objective of the effort is to propagate the compositions of the composer Kalyani Varadarajan. She was believed to be the first Violinist from India to participate in the Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival way back in 1979.
