Krishna Gana Sabha Endowment Award for Mohiniattam artiste Rekha Raju
CHENNAI, December 21: Dr. Rekha Raju, a leading exponent of Mohiniattam, has landed the prestigious Krishna Gana Sabha Endowment Award.
The award was given to her by noted Bharatanatyam dancer Dr. Padma Subramanyam and industrialist Nalli Kuppaswamy at a function here recently.
Dr. Rekha Raju was given the award for her valuable contributions towards Mohiniattam.
It is for the first time that a young Mohiniattam exponent is felicitated by Krishna Gana Sabha.
“It is indeed an honour to receive an award from a premier arts organisation such as Krishna Gana Sabha that supports and promotes our arts and to receive the same from hands of Dr. Padma Subramaniam is a blessing,” the Bengaluru-based dancer said after receiving the award.
Though Bharatanatyam was the foundation of her dance career, she had started learning Mohiniattam too and it is Prof. A. Janardhanan who had molded her into a fine Mohiniattam danseuse.
