Concert series in Kanchipuram Varadaraja Swamy temple to celebrate 1,000th year of Ramanuja
CHENNAI, April 13: The temple town of Kanchipuram will play host to a series of Carnatic music concerts spread over nine days as part of Sri Ramanujar 1,000th year celebrations.
The concert series will begin on April 22 and last till April 30.

It will be held at Sri Varadaraja Swamy Temple in Little Kanchipuram.

The concert series is sponsored by Ramanuja Sabha.

It will feature vocal and instrumental recitals.

Tiruchur brothers (vocal), Revati Krishna (veena), Shimoga Kumaraswamy (saxaphone), Mysore Chandan Kumar (flute) and Mudikondan Ramesh (veena) are among the artistes who are scheduled to perform in the concert series.

Thematic golu at Sriperumbudur
As part of the 1,000th birth anniversary of Sri Ramanujar, the Mylapore Trio (Surendranath, Amarnath and Aparna) and Sugathan have put up a thematic golu on Sri Ramanuja at Sriperumbudur, the birth place of the Saint. They have arranged a Golu in the form of dolls and pictures in 14 bays in two rows at the birth place of Sri Udayavar, opposite to the Adikesava Perumal Temple, Sriperumbudur. The dolls included important forms of Lord Ramanujar. Also, his entire life history in Thanjavore painting-style are displayed on the pillars. The dolls display is open for public viewing till April 20.
