Search for new director begins at Kalakshetra
CHENNAI, May 11: The Ministry of Culture at the Centre has set in motion the process of selecting a new director for Kalakshetra Foundation, an institution for artistic endeavour.

It was founded in 1936 by Rukmini Devi Arundale, and recognized by the Government of India as an institute of national importance by an act of Parliament in 1993.

The Ministry of Culture has put out advertisement seeking applications from eligible aspirants for the job.

Bharathanatyam dancer Priyadarshini Govind is currently the director of the institution. Her term expires shortly.

The last date for submission of the application is June 15.

A search committee comprising experts from assorted fields will select the candidate.

Given the iconic status of the institution, the appointment process is watched with more than cursory interest within and outside the artistic fraternity.
