Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha ropes in top artistes for lec-dem series
CHENNAI, December 2: Like in the past, Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha will hold a lecture-cum-demonstration series during this music season too. The lec-dem sessions will be held daily at 8.30 a.m. at Vidya Bharathi, 55, Bheema Sena Garden, Mylapore, Chennai -14. (Phone: 91 - 44 - 2499 7269.

The lec-dem series will commence on December 12, and run till December 31.

The sabha has listed an array of interesting topics for lec-dems by top personalities in the sphere of classical art.

Priya sisters will conduct a session on intimacy of pallavi with reference to contributions of T.R. Subramaniam on the 18th December. On the 19th, Sriram Parasuram will conduct a session on "Voice of aesthetics: A study in both Carnatic and Hindustani classical music''. Rama Ravi and Nandita Ravi will dwell on 'Patantharam and baani' the following day. On December 21, S. Karthick, K.V. Gopalakrishnan and R. Raman will jointly hold a lec-dem on the importance of ghatam, kanjira and morsing in enhancing concerts. Neyveli R. Santhanagopalan will hold forth on "the influence of vainika style in shaping a uttama gayika'' on December 22. The following day will feature a lec-dem on the importance of rare varnams and anubandham by Suguna Varadachari. On December 24, S. Sowmya, Alamelu Mani and Ritha Rajan will dwell on padams, javalis and the influence of veena Dhanammal style. Pantula Rama will discuss the the purpose and validity of minor ragas on December 25. On December 26, R.K. Shriramkumar will discuss the forms of Lord Vishnu in Muthuswamy Dikshitar's compositions. Hyderabad brothers are slated to spearhead a discussion on the development of raga alapana using the composition structure on December 27. There will be an interactive session with Aruna Sairam on December 28 on practice methods for students and performers. Malladi brothers are slated to take up the subject of musical opera 'Prahalada Bhakti Vijayam' of Tyagaraja on December 29. The following day will host a panel discussion on Gurukulam vs Institution vs Technology. On December 31, there will be a discussion on the importance of violin in Carnatic music. The participants will be Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, M. Narmada and R. Hemalatha.

The whole lec-dem series is conceptualized by K.N. Sashikiran, according to a released. And, it is supported by Classical Music Awareness Among Youth (CMAY), California.
