Sruti joins hands with Karnatic Music Forum to host Lec-Dem Mela on Deceber 9
CHENNAI, The two-day Lec-Dem Mela 2017, jointly organised by Sruti Magazine and Karnatic Music Forum, will begin here at the Arkay Convention Centre (R.H. Road, Chennai-4), on December 9.

The two-day lec-dem mela will be inaugurated by Akhila Srinivasan, Managing Director of Shriram Life Insurance Company Ltd.

The inaugural function will also see the distribution of Manna Srinivasan and Meenakshi Ramakrishnan Endowment Scholarships.

The theme of the two-day mela will be "Tyagaraja''.

At 9:30 a.m. on December 9, Sriram Parasuram will dwell on the subject of raga creations of Tyagaraja. This will be followed by a session by R.K. Shriramkumar on the the vision of raga in Tyagaraja's composition. He will be accompanied by L. Ramakrishnan (violin) and N. Manoj Siva (mridangam). At 5:00 p.m., Sujatha Vijayaraghavan will discuss Tyagaraja's Nauka Charitram. Jhanani Mahalingam (vocal), Pappu Gyandev (violin) and H. Vineet (mridangam) will support Sujatha in her presentation. Subsequently, Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi will discuss the theme "Sangathis in Tyagarajar's composition''. They will be supported by Raghavan on the mridangam.

Day 2 (i.e. December 10) will begin with a presentation by K.S. Kalidas on 'Layam in Tyagaraja's kritis'. He will be supported by Brinda Manickavasagam (vocal), Aishwarya Shankar (vocal) and L. Subramanian (mridangam). This will be followed by a session by R.S. Jayalakshmi on 'The structure of Tyagaraja's compositions'' with vocal support from Swetha Balasubramanian. At 5:00 p.m, Dr. S. Sunder will dwell on Tyagaraha's nadopasana. He will be assisted by J.B. Keerthana (vocal), J.B. Sruthi Sagar (flute) and Poongulam Subramaniam (mridangam). This will be followed by a presentation by Malladi Brothers on rare compositions of Tyagaraja. They will be supported by B.U. Ganesh Prasad (violin) and Tumkur Ravi Shankar (mridangam).
