Ilaiyaraaja to inaugurate annual Academy festival on December 15
CHENNAI, December 5: Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, a well-known name in the world of Tamil cinema, will inaugurate the 91st annual conference and concerts of The Music Academy here on December 15.

The morning conference sessions will be presided over by Sangita Kalanidhi-designate vidwan N. Ravikiran.

The Sadas will be presided over by Justice Indira Banerjee, Chief Justice of High Court.

Each day will be split into five sessions. The first session will begin at 9 a.m., and the final session of the day will end at 9.30 p.m.

The inaugural day i.e. December 15 will see S. Varadarajan giving a solo violin recital at 7 p.m.

Top artistes such as Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Bombay Jayashri, S. Shashank (flute), N. Ravikiran (Chitraveena) and Lalgudi sibblings - Viji and Krishnan (violin), among others, have been given the late evening slots (i.e. between 7 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.).

Sudha Ragunathan, sisters Ranjani & Gayatri, Malladi brothers, Gayathri Girish, S. Sowmya, Sikkil Gurucharan, Bharat K. Sundar, Vidya Kalyanaraman, Nisha Rajagopalan, Aruna Sairam, A. Kanyakumari & Embar Kannan (violin duet), Kunnakkudy Balamurali Krishna, K. Gayathri, Nisha Rajagopalan, K. N. Renganatha Sharma and Sumitra Vasudev figure in the evening slot (i.e. between 4 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.).

Some very senior artistes are slated to give concerts in the morning.

Some talented youngsters such as Rithvik Raja, Sriranjani Santhanagopalan, Padma Sugavanam, Trichur brothers, Vasudha Ravi and others have been allotted the middle slots.

The first day of the New Year will see Dushyanth Sridhar giving a Harikatha performance. The Sadas will be in the evening at 5 p.m. and will see Ravikiran conferred the title Sangita Kalanidhi. There will be a special nama sankirthanam programme thereafter of Sengottai Hari Bhagavathar.
