Yathiraja Mutt head to inaugurate Sri Parthasarathy Sabha music festival begins on Dec. 16
CHENNAI, December 8: The 117th annual music festival of Sri Parthasarathy Sabha will get under way here on December 16. The festival will go on till January 4, 2018.

His Holiness Sri Sri Yathiraja Jeeyar Swamy of Sri Yathiraja Mutt, Melukote, will inaugurate the festival, and confer the title “Sangeetha Kalasarathy” on Dr. K.J. Yesudas.

The festival will be held at Vidya Bharathi, No: 55, Bheemasena Garden Road, Mylapore, Chennai – 4. Phone : 2499 7269 / 2499 1248.

The Swami will also present the Gottuvadyam Narayana Iyengar Award for visesha vadyam to A.K.C. NATARAJAN (Clarinet). The award is instituted by Chennai Fine Arts. The Palghat Mani Iyer Centenary Award will go to Mannargudi A. EASWARAN. This award is instituted by Nithyashree Mahadevan. The Dwaram Venkataswami Naidu Award, instituted by Mohan Parasaran, will be given away to R.K. Sriramkumar. The Dr. M.L.V. Award, instituted by Sudha Ragunathan, will go to Vishnudev Namboothri. V.K. Manimaran will get the Ramanathan Award, instituted by Sathanur V. Parthasarathy. The festival will also host lecture demonstrations on assorted topics every day in the morning. The sabha has enlisted top names for lec-dems. The venue is a convenient access point for music lovers in and around Mylapore and Triplicane temple areas. Since leading artistes make it a point to perform at this venerable sabha, the concert series here attract discerning rasikas through out the festival. As part of the annual festival, the sabha is also hosting a upanyasm of Velukkudi Krishnan on the first morning of the New Year at NKT Girls Higher Secondary School at Triplicane. The ``Srinivasa Kalyanam'' will begin at 10 a.m. on January 1.
