Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha begins music festival by honouring 5 artistes
CHENNAI, December 9: The 38th ‘Isai Iyal Nataka Vizha’ of Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha got under way here on Saturday. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal and Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt inaugurated the festival.

This year’s birudhu Vani Kala Sudhakara was conferred by Acharya on five veteran artistes - O.S.Thyagarajan (vocal), S.Varadarajan (violin), Thiruvarur Vaidhyanathan (mridangam), C.V.Chandrasekhar (bharathanatyam) and V.Sreevathson (theatre). This also comprised acash award of 1,00,000 each.

Birudhu and cash awards were instituted by P.Vijaykumar Reddy and Preetha Reddy.

Dr. V. Shankar, President, Sri Shanmukhanada Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai Chairman, Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir, Chennai presided over the function. Guests of honour included C.B.L.Narasimha Rao, General Manager, Syndicate Bank, and S.K.Mohapatra, General Manager, Union Bank of India.

Mr. N.Krishnamoorthy, President of Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, said the sabha honoured senior artistes who excelled in vocal, instruments, theatre and bharatham and inspired many young artistes.
