Kalidas Samman award for Lakshmi Viswanathan
CHENNAI, March 8: Bharatanatyam dancer Lakshmi Viswanathan has landed the prestigious Kalidas Samman award this year.

The award was presented to her at the launch of the Khajuraho Dance festival in Madhya Pradesh.

The Kalidas Samman is an arts award presented annually by the government of Madhya Pradesh.

Named after Kalidasa, a renowned classical Sanskrit writer, the Kalidas Samman award was instituted in 1980. Initially, it was given every two years. From 1986-87 onwards, however, it has become an annual affair.

Winner of the Nritya Kalanidhi award given by venerable The Music Academy this year, She is also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi award.
