Indira Sivasailam Endowment Medal for Jayanthi Kumaresh
CHENNAI, September 11: Noted veena artiste Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh will be honoured with the Indira Sivasailam Endowment Medal this year.

Jayanthi Kumaresh, a Saraswathi Veena player, is a 6th generation musician. She hails from the illustrious Lalgudi family, and commenced her Veena training at the age of 3 under her mother R. Rajalakshmi. She came under the tutelage of her guru Vidushi Padmavathy Ananthagopalan. Later, she had the opportunity to seek guidance under Veena S. Balachander. She has a PhD in Analytical Study of different banis and playing techniques of Sarswathi Veena.

The award ceremony will be held at the Music Academy here on the evening of October 12.

The Indira Sivasailam Foundation was established by Ms. Mallika Srinivasan, Chairman & CEO of Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) in 2010 in memory of her mother late Indira Sivasailam.

Through the Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund, under the auspices of The Music Academy, the foundation organizes The Indira Sivasailam Endowment Concert during the Navaratri season every year, recognizing an outstanding Carnatic musician with The Indira Sivasailam Endowment Medal and citation.

Since 2010, renowned Carnatic musicians such as Sudha Ragunathan, Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Aruna Sairam, Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, T. M. Krishna, the Malladi Brothers - Malladi Sreeramprasad and Malladi Ravikumar, and the RaGa Sisters - Ranjani and Gayatri - have been conferred this honor.
