New year begins with bala vidhwan bavani in Mylapore
Nearly 60 children, parents and the members of the foundation, dressed up in traditional South Indian attire, participated enthusiastically by singing bhajans, thirupaavai, thiruvempaavai and namavalis. Young girls and women performed kummi around the four mada streets of Kapali temple.

Gurus Smt. Gayathri Krishnaveni Lakshmanan, Smt. Hemalatha Ramachandran, Swathy Mohan and Sugathan Mohandass (of the foundation) along with many women parents performed kolaattam.

Children were informed of the history of Mylapore and Kapaleeswarar temple and the importance of the sacred month of Marghazhi during the walk. Children dressed up in pattu veshti and pattu paavadai chokka were a treat to the eyes.

“Margazhi procession was a unique experience for the younger generation. We not only follow the footsteps of the musical legends, but also retrace their path on the four mada streets of Mylapore in order to inculcate Margazhi Bhakthi among the next generation," said a release.
