Mylapore festival features concert by students of Gaana Surabhi Music Academy
CHENNAI, January 12: The annual Mylapore festival has picked up pace with stepped up cultural activities around the Kapali temple here. A kolam contest is well on way with enthusiastic participation from young girls and women in the surrounding streets. Early in the morning, ten students from Gaana Surabhi Music Academy presented a group kutcheri at the Nageswara Rao Park as part of the three-day festival which is organised by the well-known non-banking finance company, Sundaram Finance Ltd. (SFL), from the TVS group. The annual Kolam contest is quite an attraction, and the Mylapore festival itself, running for many summers now, has managed to have rub-off effect in and around Mylapore. Neighboring Triplicane, which is well-known for the Parthasarathy temple (among the 108 Divya Desam temples), has also been hosting similar cultural shows around this time of the year. Only a few days ago, the annual music festival at the Payalwar Street concluded. The music festival has been a key component of the Marghazi activities for quite some years now in Triplicane. Like Mylapore, Triplicane, too, has organised kolam contest in the past during January with participation from people around the temple.
