Singapore Minister Iswaran to inaugurate Music Academy fete this season
CHENNAI, September 15: The 9th annual conference and concerts of The Music Academy Madras will get under way here on December 15.

Mr. S. Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-In-Charge of Trade Relations, Government of Singapore, will inaugurate the festival. He will be the chief guest at the inaugural function, which will start at 5 p.m. on December 15.

Sangita Kalanidhi-designate Dr. S.Sowmya will preside over the morning conference sessions.

Mr. Suresh Krishna, Chairman of Sundram Fasteners Ltd., will preside over the Sadas that will be held at 5 p.m. on January 1, 2020.

The artiste list does not include the name of top artiste T.M. Krishna, who has taken a stance that he will not sing in December season concerts. Chitravina N. Ravikiran and O.S. Thyagarajan too don't figure in the Academy list. Both were hit by `Me too' controversy last year. Season regulars such as N Ravikiran, O.S. Thyagarajan, Mannargudi A Easwaran, Srimushnam V Raja Rao, Nagai Sriram, R Ramesh and Thiruvarur Vaidyanathan were dropped last year by the Academy from its list of performers in the wake of `Me too' allegations.

All leading ladies of Carnatic music except Nityashri Mahadevan figure in this year's list of performers. The name of O.S. Arun, too, is conspicuous by its absence. These two have come under attack from right-wing activists for allegedly compromising the religious tradition of Carnatic music.
