Arvind Balaji makes mark at mikeless Navarathri Kutcheri at Nageswara Rao Park
CHENNAI, October 18: On day one of the three-day Navarathri Kutcheri in the Park series organised by Sundaram Finance, 13-year-old Arvind Balaji presented a lively mikeless kutcheri, amidst chirping birds and falling leaves on the morning of October 4 between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. at the Nageswara Rao Park here in Mylapore. Arvind, a student of B. Uma Sankar, was accompanied on the violin by Mugundan Samraj and on the mirudangam by Sai Srivats R Kamath. No mikes and speakers are used at the Kutcheri in the Park.

This is the 11th year that Sundaram Finance has been organizing the Navarathri Kutcheri in the Park.

Arvind presented compositions that included Mathe Malayathvaja (Kamas/Adhi), Karunai Seivai (Hamsadwani/ Desh Adhi), Nadasudha (Arabhi/Roopakam), Shankari Shankuru ( Saveri/Thisra kathi Adhi), Annaporne Visalakshi (Sama/Adhi) and Mathangi Raja Rajeswari (Ramapriya/Roopakam).

P Viswanathan, Company Secretary, Sundaram Finance, presented certificates and mementos to the artistes.

Sundaram Finance has also been organizing monthly Kutcheri in the Park on the first Sunday of every month since February 2007. Over 1,300 children have presented concerts at the Kutcheri in the Park.
