Brindavana Saranga
- A Most Pleasing and Emotional Raga

This is a minor raga, sung generally in the post-pallavi session. It has some krithis, made popular by famous artistes like M.S. Subbulakshmi (Rangapura Vihara / Dikshitar), Maharajapuram Santhanam (Swaminathena / Dikshitar), T.N. Seshagopalan (Saundararajam upasmahe/ Dikshithar), Balamurali (Kamalaptakula / Thyagaraja) and Sowmya (Kaliyuga Varadhan / Periasamy Thooran).

This is a desya raga derived from the 22nd mela Kharaharapriya.

The notes taken by this raga are: Sa (Sadja), Chatusruti Ri (Rishaba), Sadharana Ga (Gandhara), Sudha Ma (Madhyama), Pa (Panchama) and Kaishiki Ni (Nishada).

A dhaivata (Da) varjya (is absent) raga, it belongs to the audava (pentatonic) vakra (zigzag) shadava (hexatonic) group.

Ga is varjya in the arohana. Ri, Ma and Ni figure both as jiva svara and nyasa svara.

It is a minor raga, capable of giving a tranquilizing effect.

Even though a sarvakaklika (all time) raga, it is sung in post-pallavi part in concerts.

A bhakthi rasa pradhana raga, it lends itself to sancharas in all three octaves.

In Hindusthani music, it is known as Brindavani. This raga is referred to in works like Brihaddharma Purana, Ragatarangini, Chaturdandi Prakashika etc. In all these works, this raga is referred to as Brindavani. It is a suitable raga for singing bhajans slokas etc.
