A rich redendition
CHENNAI: Gayathri Venkataraghavan stood out for the Clarity in diction, appropriate sangatis, and rich repertoire marked Gayathri Venkataraghavan’s concert for Sri Parthasarathy Sabha on December 22, 2014. She was simply elegant in her rendition. She chose to render a grand Dikshitar kriti “Thyagaraja Vaibhavam” composed with a Gopuccha yati in ascent and descent order. It was an ecstatic experience, as she brought to the fore the lilting lyrics of the kriti. With her style and interpretation, she brought out the composer’s message clearly. Shyama Sastri’s “Parakela Amba Nannu Paripalimpa (Kedaragaula) was melodious. Gayathri’s Todi alapana was impacting and charming. She drew a visual picture of the raga with her steady voice and skillful tactics which she employed evenly. Shriram Kumar was liberal in appreciating the main artiste even as he followed her with felicity and dedication. Thyagaraja’s ` Chesidanella Maracitivo’ saw her doing the niraval at “Rama Sri Thyagaraja Premavatra Sita”. Gayathri gave a luxurious treatment to the krit, and shared her elevated musical experience with the audience. She was fascinating in the manodharama sangeetham. She took Abheri raga and made an exquisite alapana and tanam singing. “Paagai Urugum Nenje Pankaja Kannanai Nenindidu” was the pallavi line chosen. It was set to Misra Chapu talam. She rendered the pallavi in Abheri, and then glided into swara-singing in ragas such as Varali, Valachi, Behag etc. Taniavarthanam between Manoj Shiva on Mridangam and Trivandrum Rajagopal on Kanjira was impressive and vibrant.
