Grace marks Bombay Jayashri’s concert for Narada Gana Sabha
Bombay Jayashri’s concert for Narada Gana Sabha on December 30, 2017 stood out for purity of music and classism. She tried to make the concert a little different this time around by being strictly traditional and choosing only Carnatic ragas. Her interpretation of ragas and kritis were summed up in enviable idioms, forming a fitting pattern to express her music. Raga Dharmavathi was bright, and opened up ecstatic phrasings in all its grandeur as Jayashri made the assembled to experience the felicity with which she explored the subtle shades of the raga. She rendered Mysore Vasudevachar’s “Bhajana Seyya Rada”. “Senthil Nadane (Neelambari) and Sada Matin dalatu (Gambiravani) of Thyagaraja were impressive. Devasri Tapastirtha (Madhyamavathi) of Thyagaraja was a good presentation. Jayashri made a riveting image of the raga with her command over the music. Her RTP in Kamas set to adi tala was aesthetic and classy. She brought the curtain down with a thillana in Yamuna Kalyani. Embar Kannan on the violin gave adequate support, and Patri Satish Kumar on the mridangam and Sundara Kumar on the Kanjira played exceptionally well. The fully packed auditorium gives a clue or two to the continuing star status enjoyed by this artiste. Surely, she signed of Season 2017 with a graceful concert.
