The face of the sabha
He wears the white dress. It is his trade mark dress. The vibuthi is prominent across his forehead. As you enter the concert hall of Shri Parthasarathy Sabha, he reaches out to invite you with folded hands. Not just that. He guides you to a comfortable seating position. And, he doesn't forget to tell you: ``It is like your house marriage. Please be comfortable.'' That is Hariharan, the sabha secretary, for you. The face of the sabha for common rasikas!

Junk tradition
Seasons may come. Seasons may go. But the audience behaviour never changes, it appears. It is frustrating to see people move constantly inside the auditorium even as a concert is truly on. They don't care about basic etiquettes. An irritated T.M. Krishna has to tell the audience that ``tani avarthanam will come only when it comes!'' During the concert of Sudha Ragunathan in the same venue, it was one big mess in the beginning with people running here and there to find seats. ``I also get hungry when the clock strikes 8.30,'' an exasperated Krishna said, tongue-in-cheek. Well, the audience may not wish to change this tradition!

Problem of plenty
The December season has grown. From a few, the sabhas holding music concerts have mushroomed in the past few years. The city too has grown. It has accepted more people from within and without. Not just that. The car population too has gone up several times. But there isn't enough space to park cars. Sabhas are facing a very peculiar problem. Concert-goers more often than not park their cars on the roads, causing hindrance to traffic movement. So much so, the authorities at the Mylapore Fine Arts have to make a public announcement to clear the cars parked on the roads. Time the parking issues are addressed.

Packaging music
Of late, the Carnatic music world has seen many youngsters - who are well-educated and articulate- come into limelight. How many of them are really good? A huge debate is currently on about these upcoming artistes. Ask this elder among the Carnatica brothers. ``Their packaging is incredibly good from outside,'' avers N. Shashikiran. The content inside the package has to be that much good, he goes on to add. The proof of the pudding, it is said, is in eating.

A culture park?
From common parks to technology parks, the country has come a long way. The technology parks - from software to hardware and chemical ones - have indeed underscored India's arrival on the international economic scene. India, as a nation, is rich in culture and art. Why can't these be showcased? That is what precisely N. Shashikiran, senior among the Carnatica brothers, is aiming at. Why not a culture park on the lines of technology parks? asks Shashikiran. Well, why not? Hopefully, his dream will come true one day.

Twice blessed
Brand ambassadors are usually celebrities picked from a select few fields such sports, cinema and the like. Rarely corporate India opts for icons from the field of art and music as brand ambassadors. Saree sellers such as Nalli and RmKv do rope in carnatic musicians in their marketing gambit. Of late, some corporates like DBS Cholamandalam have gone in for tie-up with artistes in their product promotion efforts. Why not Krishnas, Sudhas, Jayashris, Sanjays, Arunas and the like of the Carnatic music world be roped in as cultural ambassoadors. Well, it could be a twice-blessed act. It could bless the artistes as well the sponsors!

Merging colours
They package themselves well. While doing so, they also care for the details. A sharp fan notices the dress sense of this sister-duo. Well, they dress up in such a way that the colour of the sari worn by a sister matches the colour of the blouse worn by the other. Not just the shruti alignment, Ranjani and Gayathri care for colour alignment, too!
